Supporting Three-year Retreats

It is a tradition that people who cannot do retreat themselves share the merit by offering financial support to the retreatants. If you would like to contribute to this worthy cause, please consider donating to one of these funds:

  • The 3-Year Retreat Scholarship Fund. This is a scholarship fund that is available for second- and third-year retreatants and can cover up to 25% of the cost of a given year of retreat.
  • The 3-Year Retreat Sustaining Fund. This fund is not for scholarships, but is designed to cover expenses incurred by Söpa Chöling in its mission of providing a container for three-year retreats.

You can donate to these funds through the Gampo Abbey website. If you are in Canada or the United States, you can donate online. Otherwise, you can donate by phone or by mail. Be sure you specify that you are donating to the 3-Year Retreat Scholarship Fund or the 3-Year Retreat Sustaining Fund. This is a tax-deductible donation. Thank you very much!

If you know of someone in particular who needs support, you are also welcome to send money to that person individually, though this kind of donation is not tax-deductible.

The names of retreat benefactors are kept in the Söpa Chöling Shrine Room and are included in the retreat mandala and in some specific practices. But the most precious gift is the atmosphere of gratitude and appreciation that our patrons create during this rigorous training period.

Other Scholarship Funds

In addition, two other scholarship funds have been established:

  • The Lisa Hilliard Memorial Trust was established by Brian Hilliard. It is designed to provide additional financial support beyond what is available in the 3-Year Retreat Scholarship Fund, up to 50% of the annual costs.
  • The Kier Craig Annual Scholarship was established by an anonymous donor who donates annually to assist Söpa Chöling retreatants in need of financial assistance.

Contact the Söpa Chöling druppon for more information about these funds.
