Greetings from Gampo Abbey’s monastic community!

We would like to extend a deep gesture of gratitude to all who contributed to our Shedra Scholarship Fund last year ~ we were able to send three monastics to the program entirely on your support! This spring seven monastics are seeking financial assistance for participation in the spring semester of the Vidyadhara Institute, Gampo Abbey’s monastic college.

Studying the Dharma with skilled teachers in a monastic setting is a rare opportunity. The cost of the intensive ten-week semester is $750 CAN for each participant, which is dramatically less expensive than comparable programs elsewhere. A total of $4,000 CAN is needed for all seven Gampo Abbey monastics to participate. Any assistance you may be able to provide will be deeply appreciated.

One of the cornerstones of monastic training at Gampo Abbey is the study of Buddhist philosophy and logic. This year’s curriculum includes the study of Tantra and Mahamudra as well as an in-depth course on The Grounds and Paths of Enlightenment. In Dharma training, practice and study are often described as the two wings of a bird. In order to make genuine progress along the path, it is essential to adequately develop both.

We hope that you receive this request as a presentation of an opportunity for your generosity. In helping to educate monastics you are contributing to the understanding and spread of Dharma in the west.
